Southern Libya: Its Impact on The Stability of North Africa and The Sahel.
The project was carried out with close cooperation with the Office of the African Union in Tripoli. The aim was to highlight the importance of the southern region of Libya rich with natural resources.
The region has Libya’s most important water reserves which can make it the country’s food basket. Also, research has proved the country’s most important oil, iron, gold and other minerals are in the region. Instability and chaos in the south would affect not only Libya but the whole region.
Experts from the Centre made field trips to the whole south of Libya meeting different communities and actors. This was followed by a tour to Sudan, Chad, Niger, Algeria and Mali.
The final stage was a roundtable organized at the center in Tripoli attended by experts from Germany, France, Libya and from the Sahel countries.
